Still Hunting for That Corvette Podium
Front-row pace, a race lead, and a bad break at Long Beach — the No. 36 DXDT Racing Corvette Z06 GT3.R has had the speed all season. Now it's about turning that speed into a trophy.
If you'd told me after qualifying at Long Beach that we'd leave the weekend without a trophy, I wouldn't have believed you.
That's been the story of this Corvette campaign with DXDT Racing all year. The pace in the No. 36 Z06 GT3.R has been undeniable — a front-row start on the streets of Long Beach, stints spent leading the GTD field outright, a car that Robert [Wickens] and I both agree can run with anyone in this championship. What's been missing is the finishing move.
Long Beach summed it up. We qualified P2, took the lead in the opening stint, and the DXDT crew put us back out with a gap most teams would take all day. Then the streets did what street circuits do — traffic, a lost mirror, a compressed field — and we brought it home outside the trophies instead of on the podium we'd earned through the first half of the race.
That's racing. It's also exactly why we keep showing up. This team, this car, and this partnership with Chevrolet have given me everything I need to finish this hunt. The speed has never been the question. The next box to check is standing on that podium — and with rounds still left on the calendar, I like our chances of getting there.
