Track Facts
Originally built to replace the old Daytona Beach Road Course, which used public roads and the beach itself.
The famous high-banked trioval is banked at 31 degrees — steep enough that standing on the banking without holding on is nearly impossible.
The Rolex 24 at Daytona is the opening round of the IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship and one of the most prestigious endurance races in the world.
The infield road course was added in 1985, combining sections of the oval with a winding infield layout.
Lee Petty won the inaugural Daytona 500 in 1959 — the race result was so close it took three days to officially declare a winner.
