Track Facts
Indianapolis Motor Speedway is the largest sports venue in the world by capacity, able to accommodate over 250,000 spectators.
The oval was originally paved with 3.2 million bricks, earning it the nickname "The Brickyard." A strip of original bricks remains at the start/finish line.
The road course was added in 2000 and uses portions of the famous oval, including the front straight, giving drivers the rare experience of racing on a Formula 1-level circuit inside a historic oval.
The Indianapolis 500 has been held every year since 1911 (except during World Wars I and II), making it one of the longest-running motorsport events in history.
"Battle on the Bricks" is the IMSA event name — a nod to the iconic brick surface that made the venue famous.
